Busted! Co-Founders Katie & Lauren Are Here to Debunk Your Fave Social Media Myths
We've seen all the so-called 'golden rules' of social media:
✨ Post every day
✨ Be present on every platform
✨ Hop on every trend or risk becoming irrelevant
Cute...in theory. But in reality? Utter chaos.
So our co-founders, Katie and Lauren, are taking matters into their own hands and officially calling BS. Because building a sustainable, scroll-stopping brand presence doesn't mean running yourself ragged trying to please the algorithm Gods. And when it comes to presence, strategy > stress. Every time.
So let's shut down some of the biggest myths we hear on repeat from clients, creators, and yes - even other social media gurus.
Ready to set the record straight?
• Myth #1: “You have to post every day”
In our opinion, this is one of the biggest misconceptions we see. The real secret sauce? Creating a content cadence that you can maintain and that your audience can rely on.
From some brands, that's 3x a week. For others, it's daily stories plus 2-3 intentional feed posts. But if you're cranking out content and burning out just trying to hit a daily quota, it'll show. Your content will start to feel rushed and your audience will be able to feel the burnout through the screen.
Your content should be thoughtful, not frantic. Lead with your pillars, and leave the panicked quota behind.
• Myth #2: “I need to be on every platform”
You just need to effective.
Instead of playing whack-a-mole across TikTok, Threads, IG, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, and whatever new app comes out tomorrow - ask yourself: where is my audience actually paying attention and engaged?
Don't spread yourself thin across every platform; double down where you are seeing the most traction.
And that might look different from one account to another. That's why we believe in doing in-depth audits and analyzing what platform is amassing comments, saves, clicks, conversations... that's where you should be. Double down there.
Think of platforms like power tools: you don't need the whole Home Depot aisle. You just need the ones that will help build your house. (It's okay, we rolled our eyes at this metaphor too...) Permission granted.
• Myth #3: “My brand needs to jump on every trend”
Deep breaths. Not every trend is your trend. Just because there's a new trend does not mean your brand needs to do a backbend trying to keep up.
Trends should be treated like party invites. You don't have to RSVP 'yes' to all of them. We view them as opportunities, not obligations. And when a new comes your way (as many do)... ask yourself:
Does this fit my brand's vibe and voice?
Can we put a spin on it that feels original, and not forced?
Will this build connection with my audience or just rack up views and zero substance?
If the answer is no to any of the above.. skip it. Relevance > speed. Always. And when one comes, trust that intentionality will work its magic for your account.
A quick moment for some real talk:
Your strategy should work FOR you, not the other way around. Because at the end of the day, there's no one-size-fits-all playbook for social. And that's a good thing. The most magnetic brands aren't the ones trying to outpost or out-trend everyone else. They're the ones who tune out the noise, ditch the pressure to 'keep up' and focus on building strategies that land. They know who they are, who they're for, and how to show up.
So the next time someone tells you the 'right' way to do social, ask yourself:
Is this helping my brand grow, or just making my head spiral?
And if the answer is unclear? You know where to find us. We've got coffee, Canva hacks, and a strategy session with your name on it.
